Five binders, in the order a new learner meets them

The reading room is the quiet half of Notion Beacon. Binders stay on the wall. You open them during an orientation, a desk hour, or a series evening. The sequence below is the one Han uses when she prints a packet.

Start at the left of the shelf even if a friend told you to jump to programs. The later binders assume you can read lamports and point to an owner field. Skipping ahead is how a desk hour gets booked for a word that lived two binders earlier.

Reserve a seat in the series

Shelf order

  1. LamportsOne SOL is one billion lamports. Fees and balances on later cards use this unit. The binder is short on purpose.
  2. Account cardsAddress, owner, lamports, executable flag, data length. The system program appears as the address written with the digit one. Secret keys are not in this binder.
  3. TransactionsInstructions in order, required signers, a recent blockhash that expires in about a minute, and a base fee per signature. Samples are for reading after their blockhash is dead.
  4. ProgramsExecutable accounts, the difference between a program and an instruction, and the rule that account data is rewritten by its owner program. Deployment sits in a closed folder at the back.
  5. RentA minimum balance that grows with the data length. Worked examples are printed for the series. The binder does not ask you to memorize a formula off the web.

How a visit uses the room

An orientation walks the five spines and stops at the word you wrote on a slip. A desk hour pulls one binder and leaves the others closed. A series evening uses that week’s packet, which is drawn from one binder, and the binder itself stays available if you want to see the neighbouring page.

The carrel by the window is held for the ten minutes before a session. Browsing happens at an arranged time. Ask the desk for that time before you travel.

Names you will hear and not visit

Mainnet-beta, devnet, and testnet are written on a single card at the end of the rent binder so the words are familiar. The series does not send you to any of them. If your question is “which cluster is this address on,” that is a desk hour, and you bring the public address only.
